President and Executive Director

Deb And John Ward

In the fall of 2000, while on vacation in Arizona, we happened to walk by a greyhound racing track and saw greyhounds for the first time. It was love at first sight and we decided then and there that our next dog would be a retired greyhound. We thought our chance had finally come in 2002, when we learned through a newscast that a group of retired greys were headed to Alberta. However, we were turned down because we had cats.

In March of 2004, driving home from work on a Friday evening, we spotted a sign that said “Greyhound Adoption Day”. Knowing we could not have a greyhound we were still anxious to meet one so headed out to the Meet and Greet. Any resolve we had about not getting another large dog disappeared the moment we were told that we could adopt a greyhound even though we had cats.

Zinny arrived at our house five days later and our lives changed forever! We started volunteering and over the years have fostered, transported, and hosted events. During this time we have welcomed over 30 greys into our family. We currently share our home with 10 retired racers and one adorable little lurcher girl.

We are so excited to be part of Northern Sky Greyhound Adoption Association and by the opportunity to continue sharing our passion and commitment to finding loving forever homes for retired racers.
